Spring Cleaning Tips for your Furniture!

Keeping your furniture looking bright and fresh makes the whole room look cleaner. Whether inside or outside, every piece needs a little TLC now and then. Here are a few ideas for keeping your furniture looking it’s best!

Clean pet hair quick and easily:

Anyone with a dog or cat can tell you how troublesome pet hair can be. Furniture, clothes, and carpets of pet owners are often covered with whatever their pet happens to naturally shed off. Luckily, there’s a very simple solution to cleaning up the mess. As it happens, rubber gloves attract pet hair like magnets. By simply stroking your hand over an afflicted area, you’ll find that the majority of hair and dander will stick to the rubber. Clean up is just as simple – dunk the gloves in water and watch the hair instantly detach from the glove’s surface and float to the surface!

Quick Tips to Keep Your
Wicker Furniture Looking New!

At least once a year, you should clean, condition, and repair your wicker patio furniture to ensure your favorite pieces are ready to be used this summer—and for many more seasons to come. Here are a few helpful tips for keeping your outdoor patio furniture looking good.

Keep it Dry

Despite its popularity for outdoor settings, natural wicker doesn’t do well with rain; too much moisture can weaken fibers, loosen joints, and lift paint. Keep these pieces under a covered porch—just not pushed up close to a wall, where humidity can get trapped.

Clean it Regularly

Grime builds up quickly in all those nooks and crannies! To clean a natural-wicker piece, remove dust with the brush attachment on your vacuum, then wipe the piece down with a damp rag. Tackle stubborn spills, dirt, or tree sap by scrubbing with a soft-bristled brush dipped in gentle dish soap and warm water or Murphy Oil Soap.

Mind the Sun

Even with regular care, outdoor furniture can look worn over time. Sunlight causes fading and cracking in natural wicker, so rotate chairs and tables occasionally to even out exposure. You can also dab a piece with lemon oil every few months to condition its fibers.

Support K9 Partners of Washoe County

Consign Furniture wants to make sure every service dog in our area has the right training and gear it needs to do its job, so we are proud to support the Washoe County K9 Partners. To raise money for this organization, we’ve designed a T-shirt to sell with 100% of the proceeds going directly toward the training and outfitting of K9’s. Many police agencies do not have a budget for police dogs, so they are purchased by public and/or corporate donations. In general, it costs between $12,000 – $20,000 to train and outfit a K9 dog. Help us help them. T-Shirts are just $20 and we have plenty in store. To the K-9 unit, it’s not the pursuit of happiness but the happiness of the pursuit!
